How to Share The Catholic Faith More Effectively
Переглядів 2185 місяців тому
Have you ever wondered how we can share the Catholic faith more effectively? The foremost passage used in Catholic apologetics is from 1 Peter 3:15-16, which says, “Always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you to give an account of the hope that is in you, but do it with gentleness and reverence”. Sadly, the most important part of sharing our faith with others is often forgotten i...
Not Everything Was Written In The Scriptures

Did you know, not everything was written down in the Scriptures? “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written” (John 21:25). In this episode I share one simple example of something that was affirmed by Christ as true, however, wasn’t written in the Scriptures 🙌🏻✝️🙏🎤🎸🎶 👍🏻 ...

The Simple Path to Joy, Peace & Fulfillment

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s Final Words

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s final words were simple yet profound. Though he was theologically brilliant, an accomplished scholar, and having years of successes in his pontificate including the restoration of the Holy Mass, his last words should leave each of us remembering what the Christian life should be ordered towards. It’s not about how many books we have published, how many awards, or vi...
The Early Church & BAPTISM
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
How did the early church understand baptism? Many modern day Christians consider baptism merely as a public declaration of faith and nothing more, while across the ages and since the beginning, the first Christians (and the church fathers) almost unanimously understood and believed the word of God to mean that baptism was the means in which one was saved, born again, for forgiveness of sins, an...

How did the early church understand COMMUNION?

How did the early church understand communion? The writings of the church fathers help us recognize how the early Christians (in the first few centuries of Christianity) understood the word of God to mean, and give important context to what they believed to be true, handed down from the apostles Is communion merely a symbol? Is it just a remembrance? Is Jesus only “spiritually” present? Or did ...

I watched this 3 yrs ago and re watched this againg today. Amen Chris to your passion for sharing the Gospel message of Christ. You could easlily reshare this message today when there are Journalist who continue to challenge that since many non Catholics attend Catholic Schools and that most people do not go to church any more and many provinces do not pay for other demonminations or priviate schools would not our tax dollars be saved by just having one system. My answer is God's message of Love through Jesus is priceless because the reward is eternal. Many of us raised in the Catholic System must step up like you have to be joyful witnesses of the Gospel message and let God's light of love and mercy shine through them. Our Schools will have served their purpose. Sharon.

God still sees your poop. He just imputes Jesus's perfect work and sacrifice on the cross to your everlasting benefit because of your belief in what he has done not what you have done. In Philippians 3 Paul says "Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own (your poop) that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith"

Thank you Chris for your brief video. There is now an ongoing online "battle" between rad trads and those in the charismatic renewal. Its exhausting for me personally since I had my conversion to Christ through charismatics and deepened my love for the Faith through the traditions of the Church including the Traditional Latin Mass. I have known people from both groups who have left the Church and in some instances have become agnostics. At the end of my life, I want to know that I have followed Christ to the best of my ability and that I helped to lead others to Christ and His Church. There is no monopoly on the Holy Spirit by any group but unfortunately thats a result of a very human church. I am comforted at least that St Paul talked about the divisions in the early Church, i.e. Corinth, because at least I know that somehow God can work through our messes, divisions, and frailties. God bless you!

If it's a huge problem in the Church there must be a huge number of Rad Trads. Is there any indication that Rad Trads are anything but a very small number of people in the Church? Mr Bray doesn't supply any evidence about numbers. What Mr Bray does is make lots of accusations but he does not refer to anything that any actual "Rad Trad" has ever said or written. Not a single person Mr Bray considers to be a "Rad Trad" is quoted. So how do we know that anything he says has any connection with reality?

Wait! The first church was in Jerusalem. This is where deacons came into existence. Paul after preaching the gospel for years to the gentiles, came to the Jerusalem church to get confirmation that what he had been preaching to gentiles was not in vain. The Jerusalem church was the AUTHORITY of Christian doctrine. The Jerusalem church was not Catholic -- it was predominantly Jewish in culture.

+JMJ Past is prologue. The future is the Traditional Latin Mass. That Mass is in line with the Vatican Council Fathers. Notably Archbishop Lefebvre voted in favor of Sacrosanctam Concilium. It was the Consilium under Archbishop Bugnini that flouted the Council Fathers with a counterfeit implementation. Chris, you need to learn to appreciate the power of repetitive prayer. Your suggestion to eliminate prayers "no matter how pious they might be" so as "to make them accessible to the people" is a fools errand when you are talking about the Mass of the Ages in which lay participation is an ESSENTIAL element. You have a very stilted view of what constitutes participation. Apparently praying the Mass to you is not participating. Your claim of restoration of the Mass to its historic roots plainly documents how little you know about the organic development of the Mass of the Ages over 2000 years. The implementation of the NO was a radical break with Tradition and even Vatican II. Vatican II in no way authorized elimination of Latin; elimination of Gregorian chant; elimination of 87% of the orations of the Mass; the obliteration of the liturgical calendar (e.g. the penitential season of Advent is longer than the Christmas season itself); reception of Communion in the hand; elimination of altar rails; movement of the tabernacle to a side altar or broom closet; elimination of ad orientam in favor of pro populum; banal music; female extraordinary ministers when there is no compelling need, etc. The NO can in no way be said to be a continuation of the Tradition. Doing so displays ignorance at best or disingenuity or evil at worst.Today after 50 years of the Bugnini mass, churches are empty, the liturgy is banal, Catholics are losing their culture and no longer believe in the Real Presence. By contrast, TLM Masses are stunningly beautiful in their devotion to God, the Blessed Mother and the saints. They bring up topics Vatican II removed from the liturgy including: Holy Sacrifice, reparation for sin; our unworthiness; penance; taking up the Cross; etc. The NO is protestantized focusing on a happy meal as opposed to a Holy Sacrifice of the Mystical Body of Christ. A typical NO Mass is full of cognitive dissonance, noise and disruption with lay people moving on and off the altar constantly. By contrast the TLM is prayerful devotion to God. Priest and people pray before Mass and after Mass. There is Rosary before every Mass. There is confession before or after every Mass. TLM churches are brimming. NO churches are dying, Chris. Those are facts. America's oldest diocese Baltimore is cutting the number of churches by MORE THAN HALF. The archbishop had the audacity to close the ONLY successful church in that archdiocese, the one with the TLM! On top of all that, I believe the casual NO opened the door for the gay culture of the clergy and the sexual abuse scandals. Chris, I hope you take a prayerful and honest closer look as to what is going on. May the Blessed Mother through her intercession guide you in this very important area. God bless you Chris.

QUOTE the bible that mentions a church named Catholic..And DO NOT quote Acts 9:31!!! --Actually, you need to study Koine Greek better than that. Koine Greek actually does not say "Kath-oles" in Acts 5:11. In Acts 9:31, you are simply mashing "kath-oles" together to form the word Catholic. Those two individual words form "throughout, or throughout all" only. The literal reading of Acts 9:31 reads, "Then, indeed the churches throughout all Judea, and Galilee, and Samaria had peace, being built up and going on in the fear of the Lord...." >>>>>

Later, as I was able to actually go to Mass, I thank God the mask became optional, then I lost my only source of transportation to Mass. @@gregoryt8792 It’s indisputable that Jesus indeed plainly teaches the very thing that they claim is nonexistent in Scripture. In His story of Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31), we find our compelling prooftext: Luke 16:24 (RSV) And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Laz’arus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.’ This is the Abraham of the Bible - long dead by that time -, being asked to do something by a “rich man” (16:19, 22), traditionally known as Dives (which is simply a Latin word for “rich man”). His answer was, in effect, “no” (16:25-26). Having failed in that request, Dives prays to him again for something else: Luke 16:27-28 And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father [KJV: “I pray thee therefore, father”], to send him to my father’s house, [28] for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ His request is again declined (16:29). He argues with Abraham (16:30), but Abraham reiterates that what he asks is futile (16:31). All of this reveals to us that not only can dead saints hear our requests; they also have some measure of power to carry them out on their own (though no doubt by God’s power). Abraham is asked to “send” a dead man to appear to the rich man’s brothers, in order for them to avoid damnation. Abraham doesn’t deny that he is able to potentially send Lazarus to do such a thing; he only denies that it would work (by the logic of “if they don’t respond to greater factor x, nor will they respond to lesser factor y”). Therefore, it is assumed in the story that Abraham had the ability and authority to do so on his own. And this is all taught, remember, by our Lord Jesus. The fact that Dives is dead (in the story they are both in Hades or Sheol: the intermediate netherworld) is irrelevant to the argument at hand, since standard Protestant theology holds that no one should make such a request to anyone but God. He’s asking Abraham to send Lazarus to him, and then to his brothers, so that they can avoid his own fate. That is very much a prayer: asking for supernatural aid from those who have left the earthly life and attained a greater perfection. Also, rather strikingly (and disturbingly for Protestant theology), God is never mentioned in the entire story of Lazarus and the rich man. It’s all about Dives asking / praying to Abraham for two different requests. Protestant theology also generally teaches that we can’t talk to anyone who is dead, let alone make intercessory requests to them. Yet King Saul talked to the dead prophet Samuel (1 Sam 28:12-15), Moses and Elijah appeared at the Mount of Transfiguration (Mt 17:1-3), the “Two Witnesses” of Revelation (11:3-13) came back to life again (and talked to folks); so did those who rose after Jesus’ Resurrection (Mt 27:50-53), etc. One reply (that I myself just heard from two people) is to maintain that “this is only a parable” - therefore we are told that it doesn’t “prove” anything. But many Bible commentators agree that it’s not a parable. Parables don’t use proper names: let alone that of a familiar historical figure like Abraham. They’re also prefaced by a statement (usually by the Bible writer, not Jesus) that the words following are to be considered a “parable.” Nor do I recall any other parables referring to Hades. They are in almost all instances quite “earthy” illustrations: often using agricultural and master / servant word pictures. But even if we grant for the sake of argument that it is a parable, the difficulties for Protestants are not overcome at all, since even parables cannot contain things that are theologically false, lest Jesus be guilty of leading people into heresy by means of untrue illustrations or analogies. In fact, my contention would be even stronger if it is a parable, for in a non-parable, a person could do or say something theologically incorrect. But in a parable taught by an omniscient Jesus, Who is God, in an inspired, infallible revelation, falsehood could not be “enshrined.” What Jesus is teaching His hearers cannot contain theological error, and arguments by analogy (basically what the parables are) cannot contain false principles. We conclude, then, that Jesus sanctioned “prayer to” dead men for requests. That is the traditional notion of “communion of saints.”

Seems like Cardinal Ratzinger shared this "schismatic thinking" when he said that union with the Eastern Orthodox should not require them to adopt later formulations of doctrine.

The ignorance and obvious ill will of this guy is utterly embarrassing to watch. No traditionalist or sedevacantist would claim that the primitive masses were invalid. That's clown style of straw man arguing. This guy is dishonest or he simply doesn't have a clue about the modernist crisis in the Church in which case it would be prudent if he didn't speak at all on the topic. The closest he's coming to stating anything related to truth is basically the fact that he's condemning Pope Pius XII for condemning the "antiquarianism" of the modernists just prior to Vatican II. Mediator Dei: "....But it is neither wise nor laudable to reduce everything to antiquity by every possible device. Thus, to cite some instances, one would be straying from the straight path were he to wish the altar restored to its primitive tableform; were he to want black excluded as a color for the liturgical vestments; were he to forbid the use of sacred images and statues in Churches; were he to order the crucifix so designed that the divine Redeemer's body shows no trace of His cruel sufferings; and lastly were he to disdain and reject polyphonic music or singing in parts, even where it conforms to regulations issued by the Holy See. 63. Clearly no sincere Catholic can refuse to accept the formulation of Christian doctrine more recently elaborated and proclaimed as dogmas by the Church, under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit with abundant fruit for souls, because it pleases him to hark back to the old formulas. No more can any Catholic in his right senses repudiate existing legislation of the Church to revert to prescriptions based on the earliest sources of canon law. Just as obviously unwise and mistaken is the zeal of one who in matters liturgical would go back to the rites and usage of antiquity, discarding the new patterns introduced by disposition of divine Providence to meet the changes of circumstances and situation. 64. This way of acting bids fair to revive the exaggerated and senseless antiquarianism to which the illegal Council of Pistoia gave rise. It likewise attempts to reinstate a series of errors which were responsible for the calling of that meeting as well as for those resulting from it, with grievous harm to souls, and which the Church, the ever watchful guardian of the "deposit of faith" committed to her charge by her divine Founder, had every right and reason to condemn.[53] For perverse designs and ventures of this sort tend to paralyze and weaken that process of sanctification by which the sacred liturgy directs the sons of adoption to their Heavenly Father of their souls' salvation." The Council of Pistoia (condemned at Trent) presented ideas for the liturgy that are essentially the average Novus Ordo mass "celebrated" in most conservative parishes. Trent: CANON VII.-If any one saith, that the ceremonies, vestments, and outward signs, which the Catholic Church makes use of in the celebration of masses, are incentives to impiety, rather than offices of piety; let him be anathema. CANON IX.-If any one saith, that the rite of the Roman Church, according to which a part of the canon and the words of consecration are pronounced in a low tone, is to be condemned; or, that the mass ought to be celebrated in the vulgar tongue only; or, that water ought not to be mixed with the wine that is to be offered in the chalice, for that it is contrary to the institution of Christ; let him be anathema.

Interesting subject! I know this video's old now, but I wanted to comment as I just saw it now and it very much resonates with me even today. I'm not Catholic or very religious myself, though I know many different Catholic people, and I've researched some of the different schisms among Catholics, most notably, the one you talked about here. Basically, my understanding of those Catholics is the same as yours. However, I've also noticed that those Catholics tend to be very antisemitic, heavily anti-immigration, and even white supremacist. Has that been your experience with them?

I am a Catholic born in 2002. I have always followed the novus ordo and never saw anything wrong with it. My faith is as strong as any person who attends the TLM. I had many good priests who preached the values of Jesus. None of the people that went to my Church espoused anything that was contrary to the core beliefs of the Catholic Church. Translation: We fall in line with every single Conservative, Catholic, Christian value that many who go to the "Traditional Latin Mass," claim that we have abandoned. I know many converts, one of which I have sponsored through RCIA, who had their start in the Novus Ordo mass. It genuinely isn’t more or less “powerful” than the TLM, and the mystery isn’t of the mass, but the transubstantiation, and receiving of the Eucharist which is the center of Catholicism as we know it. Not the mass, the EUCHARIST. The other sacraments are also important, and as long as those are kept, and the laypeople have access to them, the Church will be fine in performing its duties in bringing more people to Christ. From what I understand, people believe that after Vatican II the church became less holy… whatever that means. I don’t think the pope was attacking the Traditional Latin Mass itself, but the people out there who believe that it is the ONLY way to truly “remedy” all the problems of the Church. First off, there are many problems within the church that are not related to the mass: rape, abortion, false teaching, pedophilia, homosexuality, and other abuses… but guess what people? All of this bad stuff happened even before Vatican II. It’s only now with the advent of technology and the media that it’s being HIGHLIGHTED. And from the public’s perspective, all these bad things only happened after Vatican II so it must have been caused by Vatican II, right? Vatican II Like all other ecumenical councils was designed to reinforce teaching that was already there, not to add anything NEW to the doctrine or canon. For the millionth time, we had to reiterate the trinity, the creed, the meaning of everything because that is the Church’s job, and for some reason people can’t discipline themselves to just remember BASIC THEOLOGY. The fact that they needed an ecumenical council meant that somewhere someone was teaching something false. That isn’t a mass problem… that is a teaching problem. So the actual solution… is to get better teachers. What a concept: getting people who are better trained in church teaching into the priesthood. The mass doesn’t deceive people… people deceive people. To blame a format of the service for the problems of the Church is misguided at best, and malicious at worst. It is misguided because the solution is to actually get better taught priests into the priesthood. It is malicious because the priests, deacons, nuns, bishops, and Popes who have committed these heinous acts don’t need theological correction, they need corporate correction. They need to go to prison for their crimes. I think that the pope doesn’t want the traditional Latin mass to become a “band aid” fix for the problems of the church. He doesn’t want us to abuse the traditional Latin mass as a way for ignoring other issues. Because if people genuinely believe that going to a different kind of service is all it takes to fix the problems within the church instead of addressing the problems directly, that is what they’re doing with the mass. They are abusing the mass to make themselves feel better. Using the mass like… a drug quite frankly. The pope has a responsibility to fix any problems within the church because we are the beacon for the world. He can’t do it on his own, and when we practice religious escapism by going to retreats or attending a different kind of mass, we are complicit in complacency and not addressing the issues we have. In a time where the world is pressuring us to change, we don’t need distractions. We don’t need a new service or a new this that or the other. We need to focus on the problems and fix them. He is directing us to get out of our shells, out of the safe haven of the Church to see and fix the problems of the world, and of course to fix the problems of the Church. If we are banded together, we can overcome any problems within the church and otherwise, but if we cower in our confession booths, if we hide in our pews, nothing will get fixed and that’s a fact. Of course people won’t understand this, because it’s so many words, so the apparent solution is to take away the distraction. Think of it this way: you have a fat kid who eats a lot, sits on the couch all day playing video games. Of course, all he has to do is get up, exercise, and eat less. But the fact of the matter is: he’s not gonna do that. He’s gonna keep on sitting there eating his lays and playing Halo. You can explain to him all day long that he needs to stop doing this and why he must stop, and he won’t. Why? Because he’s distracted. Distracted from the problem by the pleasures of the games and the chips. So, as a parent, the best thing is to really take away the chips and the video games. Sure, the child will cry and throw a hissy fit at first, but he will eventually calm down. After the distraction is taken away, the child will have time to reflect, and correct the behavior, so they can stop being fat and unhealthy. That is similar to how a lot of people treat the mass (TLM and novus ordo) retreats, etc… they go to just feel good instead of looking outwards and fixing the real problems. Pope Francis is an older gentleman. I don’t know if he had kids but he must at least know a thing or two about human nature, because he realizes that like anything humans can get their hands on, the mass can and will be abused. The same thing applies to the Traditional Latin Mass that the youth today so proudly love. He just doesn’t want us abusing the mass to escape our real duty as Catholics. I’ll give you a hint: nobody gets converted by a Catholic who never goes anywhere except Mass. abortion doesn’t get fixed by people who just attend service and do their sacraments. Battles are never won in basic training. You have to go out there and fight. You have to realize the human element in the church and fight that too. Whatever you do, if you’re a Catholic who goes to traditional Latin mass or the novus ordo, don’t be complacent, and don’t use the traditions to escape your duties that you received at confirmation.

"Rad trad" insults Catholic Traditionalists because the SPLC coined it. Here's why I believe the Novus Ordo is valid and illicit. "Most Holy Father, Having carefully examined, and presented for the scrutiny of others, the Novus Ordo Missae prepared by the experts of the Consilium ad exequendam Constitutionem de Sacra Liturgia, and after lengthy prayer and reflection, we feel it to be our bounden duty in the sight of God and towards Your Holiness, to put before you the following considerations: 1. The accompanying critical study of the Novus Ordo Missae, the work of a group of theologians, liturgists and pastors of souls, shows quite clearly in spite of its brevity that if we consider the innovations implied or taken for granted which may of course be evaluated in different ways, the Novus Ordo represents, both as a whole and in its details, a striking departure from the Catholic theology of the Mass as it was formulated in Session XXII of the Council of Trent. The "canons" of the rite definitively fixed at that time provided an insurmountable barrier to any heresy directed against the integrity of the Mystery. 2. The pastoral reasons adduced to support such a grave break with tradition, even if such reasons could be regarded as holding good in the face of doctrinal considerations, do not seem to us sufficient. The innovations in the Novus Ordo and the fact that all that is of perennial value finds only a minor place, if it subsists at all, could well turn into a certainty the suspicions already prevalent, alas, in many circles, that truths which have always been believed by the Christian people, can be changed or ignored without infidelity to that sacred deposit of doctrine to which the Catholic faith is bound for ever. Recent reforms have amply demonstrated that fresh changes in the liturgy could lead to nothing but complete bewilderment on the part of the faithful who are already showing signs of restiveness and of an indubitable lessening of faith. Amongst the best of the clergy the practical result is an agonising crisis of conscience of which innumerable instances come tour notice daily. 3. We are certain that these considerations, which can only reach Your Holiness by the living voice of both shepherds and flock, cannot but find an echo in Your paternal heart, always so profoundly solicitous for the spiritual needs of the children of the Church. It has always been the case that when a law meant for the good of subjects proves to be on the contrary harmful, those subjects have the right, nay the duty of asking with filial trust for the abrogation of that law. Therefore we most earnestly beseech Your Holiness, at a time of such painful divisions and ever-increasing perils for the purity of the Faith and the unity of the church, lamented by You our common Father, not to deprive us of the possibility of continuing to have recourse to the fruitful integrity of that Missale Romanum of St. Pius V, so highly praised by Your Holiness and so deeply loved and venerated by the whole Catholic world." lms.org.uk/ottaviani-intervention What tells you that "rad trads" probably would want parts of St. Justin Martyr's liturgy? Have you heard of organic liturgical development Please don't generalize hastily. Merely liking the Traditional Latin Mass doesn't make anyone a traditionalist Catholic. A Modernist heretic could attend it only because he likes Latin along with "smells and bells." If you attend the Novus Ordo, which I won't do, there may be times when you shouldn't do that. For example, you shouldn't attend a so-called gay wedding. St. Thomas Aquinas says that a priest could consecrate all the bread in a bakery. But that doesn't mean it's alright to go to a Mass where he does that.
